New Economic Impact Study

During the South Carolina Nuclear Summit, Westinghouse Electric Company announced the release of a new independent economic impact study, prepared by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), detailing the benefits of completing the two partially built AP1000® advanced modular reactors at V.C. Summer.

 

Key Findings from PwC Study

  • $7.3 billion in South Carolina GDP generated during construction

  • 7,300 high-paying South Carolina jobs supported annually during the construction phase

  • Once operational, the two AP1000 units would generate $1.6 billion in annual state GDP and support 2,700 long-term jobs in South Carolina over an 80-year operating life

  • The project would deliver 2,300 MW of clean nuclear capacity, enough to power approximately 1.5 million South Carolina homes

 

At the national level, the study found:

  • $13.8 billion in the U.S. GDP supported annually during construction

  • 12,900 U.S. jobs supported annually during construction

  • $2.1 billion in annual U.S. GDP and 3,700 long-term U.S. jobs supported during operations
